Villemajou takes its name from “Villa Major”: the Roman villa that owes its reputation to the Latin poet Apollinaire. Acquired by Georges Bertrand in 1973, it is the family cradle, where Gérard learned the winegrower’s trade with his father. The Boutenac vintage is characterized by a hilly landscape and deep pebble soils allowing the old Carignan vines to withstand the arid and windy climate of this terroir.

Château de villemajou grand vin blanc: To be enjoyed with pan-fried scallops, fish in sauce or as an aperitif. Château de Villemajou grand vin rouge: Decant and serve at 16°C with rack of lamb, game or mature cheeses.

White: The grapes are harvested by hand and are subject to pneumatic pressing with separation of the presses upon arrival at the winery. All of the juice undergoes alcoholic fermentation in new French oak barrels (temperature control helps preserve the freshness and integrity of the aromas). Aging in barrels lasts between 7 and 8 months until the spring equinox with regular stirring.

Red: The remarkable quality of this vintage lies in the exceptional quality of the old Carignan and Syrah vines. The harvest is manual and begins when the berries are ripe. Some of the Syrah and Carignan are vinified by maceration in whole bunches. Traditional maceration is carried out on the other grape varieties. The wines are blended after malolactic fermentation and then placed in 225-litre Bordeaux barrels in our cellar for 12 months of ageing. The wine is then kept for 12 months before being marketed.

Château de villemajou grand vin blanc: Golden color, brilliant, a fairly deep yellow. Very expressive nose and sublime depth, aromas of dried apricot, grilled almond, very floral fragrance of hawthorn and broom. Full and creamy mouth, round, very velvety and brioche-like. Tense finish and very fresh. Château de villemajou grand vin rouge: With a deep garnet color, Château de Villemajou reveals notes of toast, liquorice and clove and offers powerful and elegant aromas of stewed fruits, sweet spices, leather and roasting.
