Description du vin
Villemajou takes its name from “Villa Major”: the Roman villa that owes its reputation to the Latin poet Apollinaire. Acquired by Georges Bertrand in 1973, it is the family cradle, where Gérard learned the winegrower’s trade with his father. The Boutenac vintage is characterized by a hilly landscape and deep pebble soils allowing the old Carignan vines to withstand the arid and windy climate of this terroir.

Vinification et élevage
Château de villemajou grand vin blanc: The harvest date is only triggered, grape variety by grape variety, when the grapes are at optimum maturity and after daily tasting of the berries. The grapes are harvested by hand and are subject to pneumatic pressing with separation of the presses upon arrival at the winery. After a light static settling, the juice (100% of it) undergoes alcoholic fermentation in barrels (temperature control helps preserve the freshness and integrity of the aromas). Aging in barrels lasts between 7 and 8 months until the spring equinox with regular stirring (for two months). After a light fining, the wine is bottled. Château de villemajou grand vin rouge: The remarkable quality of this vintage lies in the exceptional quality of the grapes. Indeed, the property has old vines aged 80 years for Carignan and 30 years for Syrah. Yield control, 25hl/ha, is carried out by using green harvesting to homogenize the load of each vine, and thus obtain a "grouped" maturation of the bunches. The harvest is manual according to tradition and the wines are then placed in 225-liter Bordeaux barrels in our cellar for a period of approximately 10 to 12 months. They are neither fined nor filtered before bottling and the bottles are then kept for 12 months before being marketed.
Note de dégustation
Château de villemajou grand vin blanc: Golden color, brilliant, a fairly deep yellow. Very expressive nose and sublime depth, aromas of dried apricot, grilled almond, very floral fragrance of hawthorn and broom. Full and creamy mouth, round, very velvety and brioche-like. Tense finish and very fresh. Château de villemajou grand vin rouge: With a deep garnet color, Château de Villemajou reveals notes of toast, liquorice and clove and offers powerful and elegant aromas of stewed fruits, sweet spices, leather and roasting.
